They stand beside doorways,
watching you.
Passing judgement on your sorry humanity.
Your clumsy gait
and inelegant features.
Beauty you see is their preserve.
It lasts a lifetime,
and they never, never get old.
Years ago, the secret of eternal life
made its way to them.
And there it remains.
A way of being,
a long luxuriant stretch.
And in daylight,
when humans beings explode.
They are simply there.
Shimmering on the edge,
in the shadows,
beside doorways.
Patient, always patient,
waiting for night to fall.
Taking solace in stillness,
and a lifetime ,
to never, never get old.
